ISO 41001: 2018: The first international facility management system (FMS) in the world!
The ISO 41001: 2018 standard is the first FMS (Facility Management Systems) standard published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and released in April 2018.
Specializes in the management of a company’s facilities and equipment, with the ultimate goal of ensuring and improving its functionality. The requirements of the standard are non-sectoral and are intended to apply to any business or organization regardless of size and activity, including productive activity or service provision.
Stanley Mitchell, President of ISO / TC 267 stated:
ISO 41001 will help clarify the “what” and the “why” of plant management as a strategically important discipline in all organizations in the management, operation, and maintenance of the workplace, its assets, and operational efficiencies. ”
Facility management (FM) complies with Annex SL High-Level Structure which means that it facilitates the integration of multiple management system standards into one easy-to-use management system. Thus it affects better the efficiency and productivity of the economies of societies, communities, and organizations, but also how individuals interact with the structured environment.
In a globally competitive environment, FMs and providers need to communicate with each other and with stakeholders using common principles, concepts, and terms, including performance appraisal and measurement. ISO 41001: 2018 is intended to increase the level of care and increase the quality levels, thus encouraging organizational maturity and competition.
The benefits of a complete FM system standard include:
- improved productivity, safety, health, and well-being of the workforce
- improved communication of FM requirements and methodologies between public and private entities
- better efficiency and effectiveness, thus improving the benefits of organizational costs
- improved consistency of service levels provided
- providing a common platform for all types of organizations.
